Course Description: This course is designed to give the learner an understanding of the nursing profession today as it relates to history, education, professional roles, and the health care system. Selected concepts that contribute to the foundation of professional nursing will be discussed. The course will examine the nurse's present day professional expectations and accompanying changes in responsibilities, accountability for practice, and ethical, legal considerations. |

Online Component: Through Wimba online distance learning platform students will be able to participate in online lectures in real time, using voice and audio features. Attendance is taken during these online classes. Students also participate in collaborative learning communities; current topics and issues relevant to the nursing profession are reviewed by assigned student groups. Discussion is a very important feature of this online course. Topics are selected that require student reflection and commentary. Attendance is requiured and a login is accepted as validation of attendance. However, logins do not substitute for participation in this online hybrid. Students must actively participate in discussions, collaborative learning communities and in Wimba online classes. Your submitted work, discussion board responses and file exchange documents are validations of your participation. |
