Course Description:
The fundamental principles of biology, with emphasis on the higher vertebrate systems including taxonomy. The concepts of molecular biology and representative plants and animals are utilized. Use and care of the microscope. Biology II may be taken by science and non-science majors
WORKLOAD: Considerable effort must be expended in order to satisfactorily complete the course. It is expected that you will spend at least 3 hours per week in preparation for each credit hour of course work; this is a total of 12 hours. If you are not able to devote the requisite amount of time to your studies than you should seriously reconsider your decision to take the course at this time.
MATERIALS: In addition to the lecture text and the lab manual, you will need a separate notebook for lecture and lab. For the lab, you will also need pencils, a pen, a ruler an electronic calculator, a lab coat, and a china marker (grease pencil). These supplies can all be obtained from the bookstore. |

Online Component:
This course will be half online and half on-campus/in-class. During this course, students are required to log in at least three times per week to the Blackboard system. Students will need to go to the Communication area frequently. It is important that they share ideas by posting messages. The students will be required to meet two third of the classes at New City College of Technology and one third of the classes will be online. Students are expected to participate on the Discussion Board, correspond via e-mail and collaborate in a group setting. |
