Course Description:
Survey course from Tainos to Balaguer. Analysis of Haitian-DR relationship since colonial times. Development of Political and economic characteristics since the 19th century. Study of dictators and US influence. Requires frequent but short compositions based on weekly forums. Required reading: Five books and several articles. Midterm and exam, with opportunity for extra-credit paper.
