Course Description:
This asynchronous course focuses on basic principles, concepts and research strategies used in sociology. It examines a broad range of sociological questions that include how cultural factors explain social behavior, the significance of social change in modern societies, the meaning of socialization, stratification, deviance, social institutions, race, gender and ethnic relations in modern society.
Special Requirements:
Familiarity with Blackboard and basic computer skills.
Online Component:
All of the coursework will be conducted online, but we may meet two Fridays (:00-5:00PM) during the semester to do in-class exams. All the class interaction will take place in the Blackboard environment through postings in the Discussion Board and other forums (e.g., blogs). Students are expected to visit the class site often and do the assigned online coursework on time. All class information, documents, short lectures, links to other websites and assignments will be available on Blackboard.
