Course Description:
Designed to study the structure of the urban American public education system at early childhood and childhood levels. Course includes an historical overview of education; constitutional education law; reducing the widening achievement gap; promoting equitable education opportunities for minorities and at-risk school populations; the structure of urban schools and school districts; and factors that promote more effective teaching and effective schools. Requires visits to early childhood and childhood classrooms, schools, and communities. Coursework will include contributions to each student's academic portfolio.
Special Requirements:
Students must have an active e-mail account and basic computer skills
Online Component:
Students will receive materials via Blackboard, which will include audio files of prepared lectures, audio/visual files of prepared lectures, podcasts, Power Point presentations and external links in place of traditional classroom lectures. Required discussion board participation. All assignments to be digitally submitted.
Pre-requisites:
Successful completion of all remedial courses
