Course Description:
This course is an introduction to family law and covers the following topics: the topics of family law; the courts in NYS which handle family law matters; the matters handled by the courts; the NYS unified court system; trial and appellate courts; marriage (ceremonial and common-law_,; the requirements of marriage; pre-nuptial agreeements; annulment and divorce; custody and visitation; equitable distribution; child support and same-sex marriage.
Special Requirements:
working knowledge of the computer; word; e-mail etc.
Online Component:
Students will be required to read onlinesupplementary material and do research using CUNY databases. Homework assignments must be e-mailed to professor and discussion fora must be completed online. The course is 65% online.
Pre-requisites:
ADM 2502 and ENG 1300
