Course Description:
This course will provide the student with an understanding of the historical background of music education in the United States with special emphasis on the origins and growth of the Music Educators National Conference. The course will also address various philosophical positions within the profession of music education with regard to musical intelligence, school music programs, popular music in schools and world music in schools. Students will formulate an articulate, erudite written personal philosophy of music education.
Special Requirements:
Familiarity with Queens computing helpful. Access to a wordprocessing program. Attendance at an orientation session mandatory the first week of classes.
Online Component:
This class will meet only online after the initial orientation session. There will be daily discussion board postings required Mon - Thur. All readings not taken from the textbook will be available through the course website.
Pre-requisites:
Admission to the program and persmission of the graduate advisor.
