Course Description: Lecture: The fundamental principles of biology, with emphasis on the concepts of Molecular biology, Energy, Cell and Genetics. Laboratory: Learning the use and care of the Microscope, Gel electrophoresis, biochemical tests, Mendelian and Human Genetics and forensic study
WORKLOAD: Considerable effort must be expended in order to satisfactorily complete the course. It is expected that you willspend at least 3 hours per week in preparation for each credit hourof course work; this is a total of 12 hours. If you are not able todevote the requisite amount of time to your studies than you should seriously reconsider your decision to take the course at this time.
MATERIALS: In addition to the lecture text and the lab manual, you will need a separate notebook for lecture and lab. For the lab, you will also need pencils, a pen, a ruler an electronic calculator, a lab coat, and a china marker (grease pencil). These supplies can all be obtained from the bookstore. |

Online Component: During this class, students are required to log in at least three times per week to the Blackboard system. Students will need to go to the Communication area frequently. It is important that they share ideas by posting messages. The students will be required to meet two third of the classes at New City College of Technology and one third of the classes will be online. Students are expected to participate on the Discussion Board, correspond via e-mail and collaborate in a group setting. |
