Course Description: In this course students read some of the great books of ancient civilizations: the Odyssey, Gilgamesh, Oresteia, Oedipus Rex, Medea, the Ramayana, and the poetry of Sappho, Catullus and Horace. In doing so, they examine both the ways in which these ancient cultures that produced these works have contributed to our own culture as well as the ways in which they sharply differ from our own. |
Special Requirements: Access to Internet and an email account |
Online Component: All course materials will be online rather than on paper. Students will have to do some basic background research on one poet on the WWW and download texts of some poems from the Internet. To facilitate small-group work, students must have email accounts. |
Pre-requisites: ENG 102 |
