Course Description:
General Objectives: To continue the improvement of touch keyboarding techniques through the use of timed writings and to produce administrative and other business documents that are found in corporate, professional and technical environments.

Specific Objectives:
* To utilize the advanced features of Microsoft Word software
* To improve keyboarding speed and accuracy through error analysis
* To utilize the Word features to create business documents such as letters, memorandums, minutes, agendas, itineraries, press releases, newsletters, employment application papers, and reports
* To understand the rules of grammar and punctuation
* To understand number formats, abbreviations and symbols
* To understand the rules of capitalization and word division
* To understand address formats
* To learn to carefully proofread and understand proofreaders' marks
* To understand how to use electronic messaging and electronic filing
Special Requirements:
Software: Microsoft Word 2002 or higher
Windows 2000 or higher
Online Component:
This semester BU-803 (Advanced Typewriting/Keyboarding) will be taught partially in class and partially on line. The class is scheduled to meet twice a week with four 50-minute sessions. You will be required to attend class at the regular scheduled time for the first two weeks of the semester. After the first two weeks, the class will meet only once a week at one of the scheduled time periods. You will be required to do assignments outside of class and will use a program called Blackboard (BB) for the online part of the course. You may use your own computer at home, the computers in the library, or the computers in our laboratories to complete the online part of the course. If you use your own computer at home, you must have Internet access, and you must have Microsoft Word 2002 or higher installed.

Blackboard will be used for the following:

* Getting the required assignments/projects
* Sending completed assignments/projects
* Using QCC student e-mail for communicating with your instructor and/or fellow students
* Using the Digital Drop Box
